What is a BLUE BELL?
Where did the name come from you ask? Here's a little history for you.
It all began when Mr. James Black decided that owing a piece of Merritt Island was the American Dream that a young Scottish lad was looking for. He was thinking of a purchase around 5 acres for a nursery and ended up with a beautiful and big 30 acres in North Merritt Island off of Pine Island Road. The "American Dream" began with what else? Blood, sweat, tears and a lot of HARD WORK! After some major clearing which entailed 4 constant fires for 4 months he could then build a barn and green house. Thus was born, Blue Bell Nursery Inc.
What is a Blue Bell? The Blue Bell is a beautiful flower that flourishes in Scotland and seemed like the perfect name to include his love of plants, his Scottish heritage and his dream come true. All three of the kids: Sean, Heather and Peter, loved the property out in North. M.I. Every Saturday Jim would treat to a Denny's breakfast then off the family would head to the nursery where the kids would play all day to return home filthy and tired. The comfortable and natural feel of the land brought out a few children birthday parties, and it was not only people who liked the landscape out there. Occasionally James was asked to keep animals and horses at the fine-looking property thus the nursery has transitioned to Silver Horse Shoe Stables. Mr. Black is at the stables by sun up come hell or high water and has his own following of animals which depend on his daily feedings.
Peter has a love of working outside just like his father. His business started with pushing a gifted and gently used mower to the neighbor's house to what it is now, a growing and demanding business with over 300 customers including builders, Home Owner Associations and contractors. It seemed only natural to keep the family name that held so much pride and family history. There is story behind everything in the Black family, just as there is behind the name Blue Bell Landscaping Inc. And that is just the way we like it.
